Monday, August 15 - SQ/DL SQ (w. suit bottoms): bar x 6, 135 x 4, 225 x 3, 315 x 2, 405 x 2*, 455 x 1**, 465 x 1** Snatch-Grip RDL: 135 x 4, 225 x 4, 315 x 3 x 2sets Ab Pulldowns: 100lbs x 10 4sets
*=w. belt **=w. belt and wraps
I tweaked my lower back late last week stepping on one of my son's toys!!! It's still a little touchy, but I really wanted to get a heavy workout in before work got hectic. The squats were borderline and maybe a little high, but I'm happy with the workout and the fact that my back held up well.

Tuesday, August 17 - BP BP: bar x 10-20 x 2sets, 135 x 6 x 2sets, 225 x 3 x 5sets
Did this during my lunch. Probably had no business doing chest two days after trying to use the shirt and I didn't really have time or energy for anything else. I'll be back in the gym (and hopefully more rested) on Friday.
Later, in the middle of the night, my son woke up at 4am screaming. I scooted out of bed and somehow managed to strain the crap out of my left hamstring and groin.... It's going to be a while before I'm able to DL sumo again...

I am the stupidest S.O.B. to have ever lived....
My hammy was feeling better and I really wanted to test it. Well, I succeeded and I will probably need at least three weeks to rehab...

Monday, August 29, 2005 SQ: bar x 6, 135 x 6 BP: bar x 15 x 2sets, 135 x 6 x 2sets, 185 x 6, 205 x 6 Pull-Ups: x10, x8, x8 (second set w. reverse grip) Ab Pulldowns: 100lbs x 10, 110lbs x 10 x 2sets
I had a little extra time to train tonight, but just about everything made me feel like an injury-plagued piece of crap. Squats didn't feel too bad. I decided that I really need to keep doing a little just to maintain flexibility. 135 was making me feel itin my hamstring/groin, so I decided to call it good, but I was happy that it wasn't crazy painful.

Saturday, September 3 SQ: bar x 6, 135 x 6, 225 x 3, 315 x 3 Military Press: bar x 6, 135 x 6 x 3sets
My hamstrings/adductor on my left leg was feeling all right today. The set w. 315 was a maximal effort and I wasn't too happy about that - my knees were bowing in (probably to protect my injury) and I ended up GMing 315 on the last rep. I'm glad that there wasn't much pain, but I have a ways to go.

Wednesday, September 7 SQ: bar x 6 x 2sets, 135 x 6 x 3sets Military Press: bar x 6, 135 x 6 x 2sets, 155 x 3
My left hamstring/adductors felt ok today but I think I overdid it the last time I squatted. I did squats today to maintain flexibility and get the blood flowing a little. Military press went fine but weak...

Saturday, September 10 - 2005 DL: bar x 6, 135 x 6, 225 x 3 x 2sets, 315 x 1+miss*
My first rep w. 315 was fast and easy. On the second rep, something in my left lower back just popped and I had pain in my back that shot down through my glute. I ended up dropping the bar, hobbling over to a bench. Somehow, I managed to change my shoes and left the gym...
I saw a general practice doc today and he felt it was not skeletal and that I probably had some muscle tearing. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxant. Right now, moving at all is painful. Sitting is bearable.
I really don't understand why my body seems to be completely falling apart on me lately. I'll take a week completely off and try to bench again after that. After a couple weeks, hopefully I'll be back doing some light lower back and ab work...

Dude that sucks! If you can't make the Push/Pull meet next month don't worry about it. You need to get healed up before you compete again. Get some rest.
Peace, Johnny M.

Yeah, the meet is pretty much a no-go I guess...
The only reason I can think of for my back giving out is that my recent hammy/adductor problems caused me to alter my form somehow, unconsciously throwing more stress on it or something... Very frustrating, but part of the game I suppose.

Saturday, September 17 BP: bar x 10-15 x 3sets, 135 x 6 x 2sets, 185 x 6, 225 x 3 x 2sets Overhead Squats: bar x 6 x 3sets, 135 x 3 x 3sets
Back at it today. Bench felt weak. Overhead squats felt pretty good considering my back and hamstring troubles. My left rhomboid was feeling it later in the day.
Slow and steady from here on. Competitions will be on hold for a while, but I'm hoping that I'll be in good shape by Thanksgiving.

Thursday, September 22 - Rehab One Legged DL: bdwt x 6, 10s x 6, 25s x 6 x 2sets BP: bar x 10-20 x 2sets, 135 x 10 x 3sets, 185 x 6, 225 x 3 Ab Pulldowns: 100lbs x 10, 120lbs x 10 Hyperextensions: x10, x10
Felt pretty good! One-leg DLs were hard to balance, but I think they are a really good exercise - I'll try to rotate them in frequently.

Saturday, September 24 - Rehab SQ: bar x 6 x 3sets Lunges: bar x 6 x 3sets CGBP: bar x 10, 135 x 8 x 2, 185 x 6 x 2sets Pull-Ups: x8, x10, x10
Felt ok. My glutes were still pretty sore from the one-legged DLs. Hips were really tight and I just wanted to do flexibility work to keep at it. My left rhomboid was hurting too, so I didn't do as many pull-ups as I was hoping.

Tuesday, September 27 - SQ SQ: bar x 6 x 2sets, 135 x 6 x 2sets, 225 x 6 x 2sets One Legged DLs: bdwt x 6 x 2sets, 10s x 6 x 2sets
Squats felt pretty good and I knew I could go heavier, but I didn't want to push it. I was starting to feel it in my left hamstring. One-legged DLs were hard and I was really feeling it in my left hammy/hip when I was done. I made sure to ice and hit the electro-stim a little before bed.

Friday, September 30 - BP BP: bar x 10-20 x 2sets, 135 x 10, 185 x 6, 225 x 3 x 3sets
I've been doing light stretches and hitting ice and electro-stim daily. There's still nagging aches in my left hammy and glute which concern me, but I think are improving.
